Welcome To Oaktalk

Well, it’s taken months, but Make Oakland Better Now! finally has a blog using real blogging software, allowing multiple authors and providing RSS feed. (And many thanks to Debby Richman of Today in Montclair 94611 for her help putting this together.)  Make Oakland Better Now! is not primarily a blog:  it’s a grass-roots voter organization helping to shape the city’s agenda  in the areas of public safety, public works, transparency and accountability in city government.  But we want a forum for opinions from a variety of people, and this is it.

Here’s how this will work:  There will be posts (like this one) that are on behalf of Make Oakland Better Now!.  These will mostly be either purely informational, or will set out specific positions that have either been proposed by the MOBN! board or approved by its membership.

There will also be opinion pieces, signed by the contributors.  No anonymous postings.  These posts will be moderated, but barring anything that’s off-topic, obscene, libelous, etc., we’ll allow posters a pretty wide range.  Interested in being a contributor?  E-mail us at Oaklanders@MakeOaklandBetterNow.org, tell us something about yourself, and we’ll invite you to be a contributor.

We hope to get a loud, impassioned, informed debate going.

Make Oakland Better Now!

OakTalk Here is the blog of Make Oakland Better Now!, an Oakland community grassroots group of a grass-roots group of voters, volunteers, and policy advocates committed to improving the City of Oakland by focusing on public safety, public works, and responsible budgets. Founded in 2003, we’ve researched, lobbied, and successfully campaigned for a number of new, impactful policies, including the city’s Rainy Day Fund, Measure Z and Operation Ceasefire.
